Foundation TYMB exclusive online interview with Mike Rusczyk.

You asked for it and here it is! TYBBz and the TYMB have joined forces to bring you the first ever Mike Rusczyk web exclusive interview. All questions were asked by the TYBB (Tum Yeto Bad Boyz) and the TYMB - Tum Yeto messageboard members.

You asked the questions....Mike Rusczyk answered them......enjoy!

Transistor
How much input are you going to put into your new graphics? (ie-Jeremy Wray is known for drawing a lot of his graphics, even in the team series.

Mike Rusczyk
Kinda a lot I have been working with Foundation's art director Nathan Bell a lot on this first run, my first boards are art work from my friends. It also looks as if I'm going to hand paint 150 boards for an art show or a promotion and choose one of those as one of my first graphics.

Transistor
Do you plan on putting out some crazy designs?

M.R.
Hope FULLy but there is always the question when making shit, will anybody get this? and buy it? and like it? I would like all of my shit that gets put out to be things I'm into and most of all the kind of art I like. < if that makes any sense, I would also like to start making really sick clothing.

This_is_Skateboarding
How does one make the decision to turn pro?

M.R.
I don't know, like I would skate any way so if it's there, do it.

4pie
Why don't you come to quebec?

M.R.
Been there, too French just kidding, I would love to go back to Quebec and have some time to bug out a bit and skate.

six motha fuckin thunders
If you weren't riding for Foundation, what company would you be riding for?
M.R.
This could get me in trouble, how about a list of companies I like. Krooked, Enjoi, Girl, Blueprint and Shut.

smono
If you had to live in one city and were only allowed to skate there for the rest of your life, where would it be and why?

M.R.
That would be BarceChagoBankToCurbanyTownUsWhatever I love that city!

DemolishYourself
How do you feel about the direction that skateboarding is taking? Quite a few people on Foundation are throwing themselves down giant stairs and rails, but you keep it creative. Do you feel that the 'hammers' stage is just a fad?

M.R.
More like the "creative thing" being a fad. If it's popular do a banging ollie shiffty, then the kids that do big and bigger will do them but only for a while until they get bored, then once bored they realize this shit is easy and do a kick flip shifty down a 13. You see it's a breath of fresh air to see some other shit every once and a while but the kids that "keep up" know that as well so the norm is to do "other shit" to complete a part. Like I got my rail shit my lines and my creative shit, part done. I'll tell you right now and come clean I CANT do the shit that a lot of people can bring them selves to do so in the process of trying to skirt the issue of busting the Gnar I do stuff that I can do. I don't try to be creative guy and I do believe the way I skate is out dated, but fuck it at least I don't do shifty ollies. P.S. to all shiffty oilers I mean no harm shit looks tight in photos, I just have a weak shiffty.

nodurquack
What got you into skateboarding?

M.R.
My older brother he was a real bad ass and I wanted to be like him.

the big deluth
Who did you look up to growing up?

M.R.
people around me doing shit that I thought I could never do, the people excelling in art skateboarding. The weirdest part is when you come to a time when you level off or go beyond the people you're looking up to, it becomes sort of like a sentiment when you think how you used to emulate them and want what they do to be yours.

4pie
Can you drop in vert?

M.R.
Yeah it's my only vert trick.

smono
What has skating given you that you wouldnt have been able to experience without it?

M.R.
This is one of those long long list of if not for this then..... But the fact of the matter is; myself, sounds weird and kinda lame but I think if it were not for skating and all it brings I probably not have a clue who the fuck I am.

4pie
How many boards can you ollie?

M.R.
The new one is how many stairs can you nollie. 2 - 3 some: like thigh high, my thigh I have no idea how high your thigh is.

Guest (is a girl)
Are you available? if yes, whats your phone number?

M.R.
Sorry, you'll have to get in line with all the other poor girls that will never get a chance to experience such a masterpiece as myself. Come on thats not a real question, if you want I could get you Cory Duffle's p-#.

Guest (is a girl)
Are you interested in bondage?

M.R.
Seems like a bit much don't you think?

Royale with Cheese
What are your thoughts on the band, The Pixies?

M.R.
Pixies are ripping Frank Black is a Genius, I got to see Frank Black and the Catholics in a little place by my house two members of the Pixies were there and only about 100 people, the place held like 500 people. They ripped played all the good shit and plenty of the perfect songs from the Pixies era. It's funny to me that the show was so dead and just six months later the Pixies were back together and selling out huge shows at 40 bucks a ticket. That tells you there's something in a name, could have saw them for $12 bucks.

Royale with Cheese
Favorite trick, and favorite transition to ride?

M.R.
Don't Pigeon whole me, I'm not good enough to be a trannie dog. My favorite transition is natural found obscure and some what a pain in the ass to skate. Trick would be nollie crack, you know when your ridding down the street and nollie a sidewalk crack.

basil
Tell us one untold barcelona story.

M.R.
this one time like we were wasted and stuff..... bla bla , For real we happen to be there when Barcelona won the World Cup (you know soccer) and the night lasted till the day peaple were bugging out of their heads going nuts fireworks screaming and general freak-out, the cops were mellow and it was a blast.

basil
we heard you are into modifying your clothing yourself, anything you are particulary proud of?

M.R.
I have a hoddie I reversed and tweaked so the finer points are pulled out for everyone to see, I don't much like it any more but when I made it I was really proud of it. I have this shirt that I cut the chest out of and stitched a new reversible on in to it I like that one a lot. I'll try to post some pictures with this interview.

basil
favourite kind of coffee?

M.R.
Large coffee with a shot of Espresso, the place by my house calls it a Goat Herder I call it sanity for the 9 to 5.

el ztaffo
Who do you most often skate with on the Foundation team?

M.R.
The new secret rider I cant tell you more because I'm bound by contract, but she steps to shit no one I mean no one steps to.

el ztaffo
Who pushes you and your skating?

M.R.
My hommies they are better then me and I get jealous and feel like I have to push myself, peep the hommie video bout to drop early next year.

squid
What is your first memory with a skateboard?

M.R.
I was really young, like 6 and my older brother had these two banana boards and for like one week we would cruse around the tennis courts by my hose on them on the summer nights. Pretty sick feeling if I can remember back to and it looks clear and fun.

Royale with Cheese
Favorite activity other than skateboarding?

M.R.
Working on my computer making shit, art what ever. I'm a nerd but sick as hell on rocking the ones and zeros.

4pie
first bluntslide ever where? when?

M.R.
I don't know, I did blunt slide Hubba hide out first try really long time ago, I sear just ask Mat Obrian?????????

WhatsTheRush
If you could only listen to three bands for the rest of your life, who would they be?

M.R.
Guided By Voices is in there because they have so many songs it could take a good amount of years before your over it. Bob Marley because you need that once in awhile. The Rolling Stones or the Kinks, again because it's pure rock and roll and there are lots of amazing songs on lots of amazing albums.

status1hitch
What is your favorite era in skateboarding, and why? What time periods do you think have influenced your skating the most?

M.R.
I lived in Chicago when Stereo was just starting to pave it's way, It was a really good time to be skating. Things started to mellow out not be so over tech and ridicules and I was in the right place. So I think thats around Visual Sounds time, Ethan has a very good part in that if you have not had a chance I suggest you learn. But that was the best time a lot of good friends - parties and the best spots that were not a bust. Hot Chicago nights in the loop were the best and we really did not know what we had, but thats the magic of the past.

Guest
favourate skate video?

M.R.
There is a load of great old ones Video Days, Memory Screen, but if you get a chance check out the Blue Print Video "Lost and Found"

Royale with Cheese
Favorite movie?

M.R.
I don't know about Favorites but try this one "The Man Who Fell To Earth" <--- obscure and a bit boring at times but silently perfect.

muggo
What do you think you would be doing if you didn't skate?

M.R.
Sitting on my ass hating my miserable time in this special place called planet life.

M@
Favorite album?

M.R
I'll have to say I'm a pretty big fan of ( Mag Earwig ) --- Guided by Voices and ten bazzillion other alubms

4pie
Are you the kind of guy who work on a trick or you just go to the spot, warm up and land it in like 4 tries?

M.R. Well I warm up does that count? No I work for my shit and should be working harder some times. It helps to be stoked and some place new that makes me accidentally land on my skateboard and ride away.

Royale with Cheese
Favorite country to visit?

M.R.
All others I went to the mother land once, Lots of Poloks there, it's a special you know it's where all civilization sprouted from. If you go back far enough you start to realize we are all Polish!

Royale with Cheese
Favorite Food?

M.R.
Japaneseie It's gotta be Sashimi

"!"
How does one like yourself get pumped for the day?

M.R.
Coffee and a vague feeling that you could do a lot of shit if you put some time into it.

im andrew!!
How did you first get hooked up?

M.R.
If you mean with foundation: Long store short Dorien Tucker and Jon Minner two good people, words of mouth, and the right place at sort of an ok-ish time.

Alex...
How often daily does your last name get butchered?

M.R.
Every time I go to SafeWay and you pay for some shit and they have that stupid policy where the poor bastard at the check stand has to look at your receipt and glance up at you with a confused look in their eyes and destroy thousands of years of Polish heritage and say "thank you Mr. ---------- Ruuzzcxhzack" I try not to shop at SafeWay and I try to eat mostly Organic food stuffs.

yayaya
How old were you when you first started skating?

M.R.
11 years of age

yayaya
How long did it take you to get your first sponsor?

M.R.
I'm just on flow---------------------------> like 8 years it was Acme Skateboards Remy Stratton was sending me shit.

Alex...
Is Chi-town on your top five places to skate?

M.R.
For sure but it's more of Chicago a long time ago when the shit was not a bust. Good friends really good spots and a green mind.

Mooley
Miniramp sesh or hill bombing?

M.R.
I'm a pussy when it comes to bombing hills, I come from Chicago it's ultra flat there. Miniramps are fun and very safe but it's hard to learn new shit, you end up just doing frontside grinds the whole time.

GUNDERSON
Did you pick your music for the art bars video?

M.R.
I'm usually very picky about stuff like this but Josh Beagle was like check out this song I put some of your footage to. I was really stoked on the band it was when I was in to a lot of instrumental math rocky shit. I like it a lot and thought it worked. in that part I made the intro sound song thing and the song thing at the end of my part. For a while I was super into making crazy noise on the computer, I liked that part and that video I think things came together really good on that one.

GUNDERSON
if so, how did you become aware of the artist and where can i find their music?

M.R.
The band was Freedom for Saturn, they were friends of the guys at foundation and nice guys themselves.

the_biz
How come you dont come to the novato skatepark very often?

M.R.
Too fucking busy I like that park a lot it's really fun to do laps at.

Foundation Foundation team update!

Foundation team report, straight from Grenog (Foundation filmer)

Matt - Nollie 180 big three
- Switch fs shuvit big three

Well another holiday weekend passed and despite the crazy wind all over LA, IE, and The high desert, it was a good one.

Gareth and Angel are officially in spain filming and shooting photos for a month with Dave Hoang and Cole Mathews. Duffel will be out there towards the end of the week to join them. Ethan just returned from a trip from Mexico City where he enjoyed skating drinking and watching real life cock fights. Matt has been taking it easy at his home in Victorville skating and training for the coming up Tampa contests. I will be going out there at least once a week to film with Matt. Ive been talking to Mike and he should be coming down for a few weeks at the begining of Dec. to stay for a little while and film and shoot photos.

Angel will be in New Zealand with Vans Dec 3rd - 16th and then off to Spain to hook up with his Foundation team riders.

Slash and Sammy will be returning once again to LA to continue ripping and shooting more photos with Trinh from TWS. Im gunna try and bring Adrian up also if he is in town.

No word from the two hard to get a hold ofs, Tommy and Shuriken, but im working on it.

Billy and mates spent a large portion of the drive to New York City constructing the bomb you see around his neck. The detonation location was wisely decided to be Harlem, where nothing bad ever happens. After previous close calls Bilbo made the wick to this particular bad boy extra lengthy, which somehow ironically backfired and provided the quickest explosion yet, nearly blowing Bill's hand off. After that, they went to Times Square and Ed got the van towed, which was documented in a previous post.
